The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and a group of Chicago parents are asking a circuit court to block the school board from shutting down ten of the city’s schools. In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday, the plaintiffs claim that Chicago Public Schools (CPS) violated its own guidelines by disregarding the recommendations of independent hearing officers who objected to the closures.

This week the U.S. Senate will hear testimony on the nomination of Penny Pritzker to be the Secretary of the Commerce Department. Ms. Pritzker is best known for serving on the board of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, which her family owns and controls.
Hyatt is not the model that is right for America. Americans need family-supporting, lifelong careers, not minimum wage temp jobs.
Tell your U.S. Senator to vote NO on Penny Pritzker for Commerce Secretary and vote YES on companies that value working people.
It would take the average Walmart associate 785 YEARS to make CEO Michael Duke’s 2012 salary, $20.7 million.
This number assumes:
-That what Walmart posts on its website as the average associate hourly wage, $12.67, is correct, and
-That the associate works 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, never takes vacation, and doesn’t pay taxes.
